Welcome to Imagine Mental Health Counseling!
A client-centered outpatient mental health counseling center for adults, adolescents, children, and couples who are looking to heal, create positive change in their lives, and better understand their mental health care needs.
We are ready to meet you where you are, providing a warm culture of self-awareness and healing, with specific, tangible methods that support your needs. We believe that mental health is a vital part of everyone’s life, and our legacy is to create a calmer, centered, and happier world.
Our doors were opened in the summer of 2021, with the desire, motivation, and mission to create a new approach to outpatient mental health counseling. The mission is based in creating a warmer, softer, more user-friendly, integrated, and holistic approach in how we address the complexity of mental health. At the core of being able to do so, is creating a clinician-centered work environment, where we live and work our values relating to self-care, compassion, balance, and our own well-being. This allows us the increased capacity to bring our best to you every day!
We have also more recently expanded to the Ottertail area, where our second office officially opened in the fall of 2023. We are thrilled to be expanding this office!! Stay tuned for new providers and new projects!
Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) is an evidence-based, structured psychotherapy created by Marsha Linehan and was originally used to treat Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). Now, it’s used to treat a variety of different emotional dysregulation and impulse control disorders and symptoms.
In other words, DBT skills are life skills. DBT consists of many different skills that help with emotion regulation, tolerating distress, learning acceptance strategies, and developing healthier behaviors to improve relationships. Through individual and group teachings of these skills, participants learn when and how to use these skills in real-life situations. This takes time and consistency.
Building “A Life Worth Living” is often the slogan used in DBT. To achieve this, DBT focuses on the principle of dialectics. Dialectics look at the gray parts of life, or how two opposing things can be true at the same time.
Mindfulness is another core component of DBT that is integrated throughout each skill. For most, mindfulness practices help to reduce suffering and increase feelings of happiness. For others, mindfulness is a way to help experience reality as it is.
Research shows DBT can reduce rates of suicidality, hospitalizations, and self-injury, among other behaviors and concerns, such as impulsivity, reducing emotional vulnerability and surviving crisis situations.
